Chaos In England

Why does 2016 have the potential to be the greatest football year ever?

You’ve probably watched a lot of football in your life, well maybe you’ve just seen the world cups, maybe you’ve never watched a single game in your life, but your friends have the same debate about Ronaldo and Messi every day.

England is in chaos.

Something bizarre is happening. Something no one could foresee. Something like this happens once in a lifetime. I am writing this blog at a very special time.

I’ve watched football for a decade now, and the 2015-16 season till now has been the most unpredictable season till date. Lets put things into perspective. ESPN predicted how the premier league would end this season on 5th August 2015:epl_predictions_1296x729Source: ESPN

A fair prediction at the given time. Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea were the reining champions and it looked difficult to beat them. The others were fairly standard. Arsenal, United and city were expected to qualify for the Champions League while Liverpool and Tottenham were expected to qualify for the Europa league. West Ham, Watford and Leicester were expected to be relegated.

The season kicked off on 8th August 2015 and then something bizarre happened. It is normal for the premier league table to be in chaos a few weeks into the competition, but as things settle down the heavyweights become clear. As of 14th of January 2016 , this is what the league table looks like:

Leicester City, the team with a meager budget and an average line up are going head to head with the heavy weights of football. Its one thing to be on top of the table 5 games into the competition; another is to be tied for first place on points after21 games. The team that was predicted to be dead last is fighting for the first position.

It all started with a Jamie Vardy goal against Sunderland, teaming up with Riyad Mahrez, the duo have been nothing short of dynamic. Jamie Vardy has gone on and broken the premier league record of scoring in consecutive games. Having scored at least a single goal in every game for 11 consecutive games is nothing short of extraordinary. Vardy is currently tied with Lukaku for top scorer. Leicester manager Claudio Raneri has brushed off comments about winning the title every time the subject is approached. Having secured a win over Tottenham Leicester are powering on to what seems to be one of the most unforgettable season we could witness.

Major clubs such as Manchester United(Currently 6th) and Chelsea(currently 14th) have under performed continuously, but that’s a topic for another post.

Who knows what the future holds, however, right now Leicester are showing us why football is still known as the beautiful game.

Rest Assured, all we can say for sure is that the word of football never forgets.CQ5vQ3vWoAAjy-X
